If you are wealthy and have always lusted after a genuine, classic race car, you are in luck as this Jaguar XJR-9 will be auctioned at Amelia Island next year. Enjoy.

Most likely but I still have to see what other vehicles will be there before nailing anything down.

Ugh. I want a replica of this engine, with the stacks and headers, for my desk...

How much are they?

I'm sure an auction with a car like this on the block will have many other options.

Because racecar. Do they not use these anymore because the time you gain with the aero improvement is more than lost with the time you lose during tire changes?

Sorry - should have written "want" not wanted. Not sure if it exists.

Oh, most definitely. Amelia Island and Pebble always have a fine selection.

I have no clue. Honestly, it looks like they are held on by those two clamps, so I don't see why it would take that much longer for a pit stop.

Ah. I see. I've considered buying engines and making them show pieces but that seems like a waste.

Yeah, but I could see doing it with one that's just a junkyard cast-off, or compromised, somehow, so it can't be used again.

I do need to visit the scrapyard more often, but I'm guessing my wife wouldn't be too keen on the idea of me bringing home random chunks of metal to pile up in the garage...

you can buy a non-running early 80's XJS with a v12 for probably $1000 or less.
if they don't have the same, its a similar or related block to that TWR. the stacks you'd have to find on your own, but you could probably sell a few of the xjs parts for a couple hundred bucks.

That makes since but just knowing that it was fake would annoy me.

That car, in a vintage photo, is the current wallpaper on my laptop. And I actually bought an original Castrol TWR-Jaguar pit crew shirt, which is framed and hanging in my garage over the XJ12. V12 Jags forever! Or sometimes. You know, when theyre working. V12 Jags occasionally!

Very cool. Can I see the wallpaper?
Also, how reliable has the XJ12 been for you?

I had found a larger version before, but that's the photo.
The XJ12 really hasn't been bad. It sat in storage for 7 years, but since I got it almost 3 years ago, the only issues I've had are the fuel tank changeover valve (stuck from sitting) and the voltage regulator. Runs and drives beautifully, but only 1 tank is working and it's trying very hard to cook my battery. I'll get those sorted this winter though.

Wow that's beautiful.
Well that's good to hear. I hope you can sort out the few problems it does have and that it continues to bring you joy.

The key with a Jag is to start with a good one. Prior to being in storage, it was my grandfather's, and he's the best mechanic I've ever seen or heard about. Which is why when my grandmother told me the A/C has never worked right, I thought if George couldn't fix it, why should I even bother? Haha. It's a good car though, I love it.
